Rummenigge calls Makaay lazy

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists Dutch international striker Roy Makaay needs to up his workrate considerably if he wants to end his recent barren spell in front of goal. Makaay last scored in Bayern's 3-0 win over Hertha Berlin on August 27 and Rummenigge claimed even West Germany's striking legend Gerd Muller, who scored 365 goals in 417 international matches, had to put in the hard work. "He (Makaay) needs to work harder for himself and the team," explained Rummenigge. "When Gerd Muller went ten games without scoring he worked hard to be successful again. He needs to take this criticism on board and think about it quickly." Makaay, a club record 18.75 million euro signing from Deportivo La Coruna, will hope to end his run of 994 minutes without scoring in Wednesday's Champions League trip to Juventus. "As long as he is getting the chances to score I am not concerned," said Bayern manager Felix Magath. "Once he ends this barren spell he will go and score regularly again." Makaay was Bayern's top scorer last season with 22 league goals as Munich won the Bundesliga title by 14 points.
