'14 union parishad representatives killed in one yr'

A total of 14 Union Parishad (UP) representatives were killed and 49 injured during the last year, according to findings of Democracywatch, a non-government human rights and good governance organisation.It observed and analysed the news of national newspapers on Union Parishad from October 2004 to September 2005 and prepared the report. Among 14, five were UP chairman and nine were UP members. They were killed in terrorist attacks, clashes with rivals, enmity, family feuds and other reasons. Among 49 injured UP representatives, 22 were chairmen and 27 were UP members.
