Schoolboys foil bid to extort money
Four criminals arrested

In a rare courageous act, a group of schoolboys yesterday caught hold of four extortionists at Kafrul in the city yesterday braving bomb attacks.A gang of seven criminals entered the seven-storey house of Haji Ezahar Ali at around 3:00pm in a bid to extort money from him, but the teenage boys, who are going to a playground to play cricket, challenged them on suspicion, leading to an altercation with them. Fearing trouble, the gang then tried to flee, but one of the teenagers knocked an extortionist down and chased the gang. During the chase, the gang hurled five bombs, leaving two boys injured. Hearing the blasts, local people came to the aid of the boys and caught hold of the four criminals -- Faruk Hossain, Mohammad Nayan, Su Sen and Nabi Hossain. But the remaining three managed to escape. The mob also beat up the four before the police stepped in. Later, police took the four to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The condition of Nabi and Faruk is stated to be critical.
