Cong sweeps Andhra civic election

The ruling Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh on Monday made a clean sweep of the civic elections bagging the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.

The Congress Party, which had already won nine other corporations of major towns or cities, captured the key corporation along with its allies, Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).

The counting for the corporation was taken up on Monday as polling in 14 out of 59 divisions in the city had been postponed due to floods. Elections for ten corporations and 96 municipalities in the state took place on September 24.
