Drug trader released after ‘taking bribe’


A drug trader was allegedly released after arrest by a police officer in exchange of bribe at Shivalaya in the district on Friday.

Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of police Nazim Uddin of Paturia ghat (terminal) police outpost arrested drug trader Tipu alias Tukai, 30, of Daskandi village for possessing half-a-kilogram of heroin. He was released by the ASI allegedly in exchange of Tk 30,000 as bribe.

When contacted over cell phone, the ASI denied the allegations, saying the youth was caught in connection with different cases. He was released afterwards', he told this correspondent.
