They submitted a memorandum to the UNO. It contained a six-point demand including distribution of 1000 VGF cards in each union instead of 100, sale of rice at subsidised rate in rural areas, steps to create jobs and launch of Food for Work programme immediately after the rainy season.

The demonstration was organsied under the banner of United People's Council, a newly formed local organisation of poor day labourers.

The demonstrators also held a rally in front of the UNO office. Speakers at the rally said a monga (a pre-hervest period when there is no work in fields) situation is prevailing in all the northern districts.
