BNP factions in Satkhira hold separate rallies

Rift in the BNP here has widened as two factions of the party held two separate meetings on the Vote Revolution Day on Saturday.A faction led by Rahmatullah Palash organised a meeting at 4 pm at the party office. Chairman Abdul Alim presided over the meeting while it was addressed by Kamrul Islam Faruq, Sheikh Nizamuddin, Chairman Abdur Rouf, Nasim Faruq Khan, Yusuf Ali, Abul Hasan Hadi, Advocate Tozammel Hossain and Mirza Masud Jewel. The other faction led by district BNP president Habibul Islam Habib MP, organised another meeting at the same venue in the evening. The meeting was presided over by town BNP general secretary Habibur Rahman while lawmaker Habib was present as chief guest. It was addressed by Advocate Samsuzzoha Bablu, SM Akbar Hossain, Advocate ABM Selim, Abu Zahid, Saidur Rahman, Hafizur Rahman, Manir Hossain and Humayun Maksud Khan Chowdhury. Both the factions accused each other for the split in the meetings. The party activists have become totally frustrated. Meanwhile, Sadar thana BNP president Abdul Alim chairman has accused district Krishak Dal president Mohammad Ali belonging to Habib group for allegedly threatening him with death because he sided with Palash group. He filed a general diary (GD) with the Sadar thana. Because of the rift, a full-fledged committee of the party could not be formed for the last 16 months, a senior party leader told this correspondent, seeking anonymity.
