Low turns into land depression

The well marked low over the northwest Bay off Oriss-West Bengal coast moved north-northeastwards and turned into a land depression, triggering rain and squalls.

According to the met office, the land depression lay over West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh yesterday afternoon.

"It is likely to move in a northeasterly direction and weaken gradually by giving precipitation," said a special weather bulletin of the met office.

Its associated steep pressure gradient persists over the north Bay.

"Squally weather may continue to affect the seaports."

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay have been asked to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution.
