ACC unearths Tk 92-crore tax evasion

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday unearthed an incident of dodging Tk 92 crore import duty at Benapole land port.

Sources said a team led by ACC Commissioner Moniruddin Ahmed identified two importers who evaded tax by under-valuing imported women's wear.

The two importers, whose names were not disclosed, imported three consignments of three-piece sets from India showing each costing only Tk 33 or 50 cents. But the lowest market price of a set is $4 and the actual value of each set is over $10.
