CCL now from Oct 10

The persistent rain has forced the organisers of the Corporate Cricket League to defer the tournament by five days.

The 12-team curtain-raising event of the domestic season, which was originally scheduled to start on October 1 as per the BCB's new calendar but was then set back for four days to October 5, will now start on October 10 at four different venues across the country.

"All the grounds are unfit to hold matches at the moment following the continues rain over the last few days and it will be impossible to prepare the grounds within two or three days. The participating corporate houses have also requested us to shift the competition as the weather has hampered their preparations," said Ali Hossain, member-secretary of the tournament committee.

The tournament committee released a revised fixture on Monday with three matches scheduled each day so that the league phase is completed by October 26.

The teams split into two groups would compete in the first phase and then the two top finishers from each group would move into the semifinals.

"Some corporate houses have expressed their desire to bodily shift the abandoned matches but we have decided to stick to our approved playing conditions to finish the league on schedule. Both teams will get one point from the abandoned matches but there will be a reserve day for the semifinals and final," informed Ali Hossain.

Meanwhile, there were more changes in national pool of cricketers for the corporate league after the tournament committee in its meeting on Sunday approved the exclusion of pacer Talha Jubair and left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak Raj from the list.

Before the three-day players' transfer Beximco had threatened to pull out of the competition following the inclusion of the two bowlers.

"Actually it was a mistake to include those two in the list because they didn't played in any international matches during the last six months although they were part of the national squad," Ali added.
