Dhaka's $1m grant wins a little heart
Bss, Dhaka
"Thank you for your pledge of 1 million dollars to our country. We know that our children, families and [those] seriously hurt by Hurricane Katrina are grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart," writes a US schoolgirl to the Bangladesh embassy in Washington.Aldana M Fernandez, a fifth grader of Saint Jerome School in California, wrote the letter to appreciate Bangladesh's $1 million donation to the relief fund for the Katrina victims. The warmth of the heart of Aldana could be felt in the letter that bears the impression of her palm where she signed, saying "A hand of thanks." May be it is unusual for a superpower like the US to accept a grant from a third world nation like Bangladesh. But certainly the donation helped win the hearts of people like 10-year-old Aldana. The Bangladesh embassy has received thanks not only from the Bush administration but also from ordinary citizens by post, e-mails and phone calls.
