To create awareness about space among school students, the United Nations in 2000 declared October 4-10 as the World Space Week, which in now observed in 52 countries across the globe, a press release said.

Bangladesh has been observing the space week since 2003.

FR Sarker, General Secretary of Bangladesh Astronomical Society, has been nominated as the National Coordinator for World Space Week in Bangladesh.

The inaugural function of the World Space Week-2005 will be held at the Mirpur Bangladesh High School auditorium in the city on October 4.
