Discharge duties rising above party lines
Moudud urges teachers

Law Minister Moudud Ahmed yesterday urged the teachers to discharge their professional duties sincerely rising above party affiliation and opinions. "The teachers are engaged in the most important profession. They should teach the students so that they can compete in the international level with their talents, wisdom, efficiency and skill," he said. He was speaking as the chief guest at a meeting on the occasion of felicitation of 22nd and 24th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) education cadres and annual general meeting (AGM) organised by BCS General Education Association (BGEA) at the Dhaka College auditorium. Moudud said the present government has given the most priority to the education sector. "The government has allocated Tk 9,000 crore in education sector in the budget this year. The rate of enrolment of our children in the primary schools is more than those of any other country in South Asia. We have achieved a tremendous success in freeing examinations of the curse of copying," he said. He said Bangladesh has been able to achieve much more progress in different sectors amid unfavourable situation than any other country in South Asian region. "Those who are making propaganda about Bangladesh describing it as an inactive and failed state in foreign countries are hatching conspiracy against the country. Their conspiracy of tarnishing image of the country will not be successful," he said. Moudud said the government has brought the female education in the main stream of education and it is another success of the government. State Minister for Agriculture Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir, Abdul Alim MP, Principal Nur Afroz Begum Jyoti MP and BGEA Secretary General Abdur Rouf also spoke. BGEA President Professor Abdus Samad presided.
