Five arrested on charge of extortions

Five alleged extortionists, including two girls, were arrested by the DB police yesterday at Nabapalli under Sonadanga thana here.The arrestees are Habibur Rahman alias Kabir, 30, Hafiz, 24, Liton, 22, Shima, 23, and Hasina, 20). The accused demanded Tk 50,000 as toll from contractor Mizanur Rahman Titu of 30, Haji Ismail Link Road, an FIR filed with Sonadanga thana said. They beat the contractor at Nabapalli area and set his motorcycle on fire as he refused to pay toll. Acting on a tip-off, Ditective Branch (DB) of police rushed to the spot and rescued the contractor. The alleged attackers were arrested from the house of one Habibur Rahman Kabir.
