Ashraful visits Sisimpur show

Characters from Sisimpur, the children's TV show, performed live at American Centre for local school children in the city on Thursday.

Over 70 children watching an episode of Sisimpur on a giant screen were delighted to see the real characters appear to talk to them. National cricketer Mohammad Ashraful paid a surprise visit to the children and answered their questions. Later in the day Nayantara Communications filmed at the library for use on a future TV programme. Charge d'Affaires Judith Chammas visited the library to speak with the puppeteers and crew.

The live show will familiarise children with the new American Centre Library, particularly the Children's Corner. American Center's Sisimpur day will tell children how to visit the library, how to get a library card, and showcase the importance of books and reading.

Sisimpur is funded through USAID, the United States Agency for International Development. As a children's educational TV show, it is the first programme of its kind in Bangladesh. It began airing in April 2005 and uses Bangla language and innovative educational methods to reach young children.
