As BNP, AL see Oct 1
Unb, Dhaka
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Awami League (AL) will observe October 1 from opposite standpoints as the October elections of 2001 put BNP in power sending former ruling AL to the opposition seat. The ruling BNP calls October 1 as "vote revolution" while the AL bills it as a day of "vote rigging, result forgery". However, there is no announcement of any confrontational political programme on the day. The BNP will organise meetings and processions throughout the country today to mark the fourth year of the "vote revolution." Its main rally will be held at city's Muktangan followed by a procession. BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan has called upon the leaders and workers of BNP and its front organisations to make the programme a success. The AL has announced nearly a month-long programme of meetings and processions, starting today with a seminar on election process and caretaker government at the Engineers' Institution. Other AL programmes include public rally at Muktangan on October 4 while party President Sheikh Hasina will make a speech at the Diploma Engineers' Institute on October 10.
