Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the house of the slain Mirpur Commerce College student Kamrul Islam Momin on Thursday night."Some unknown men fired several shots at our house," Kamrul's brother Shamsul Islam told The Daily Star yesterday. The family alleged police are reluctant to arrest the killers, though the accused are roaming in the locality. "At least three FIR (first information report)-listed accused -- Jafar, Shah Alam and Mintu -- were seen in the area, but the police are not taking action against them," Shamsul added. "Moreover, the killers yesterday threatened my uncle Masud over telephone to withdraw the case," he added. "One murder not enough lesson for you? Do we have to kill more to teach you?" Shamsul quoted the anonymous caller as threatening Masud. He alleged Kafrul police did not respond to their calls when told the criminals had returned to the area. "Kafrul OC asked us to contact Detective Branch (DB) of police for help, as the case has been transferred to them." The OC also gave him the DB investigation officer's (IO) phone number. "I could not contact him despite several efforts," Shamsul continued, adding, "Besides, the new IO had never come to us for an enquiry." Meantime, police are yet to take action against the closed OC of Motijheel Police Station for not reporting to Razarbagh Police Lines four days after the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner had issued him a notice. The law enforcers even do not know whether the OC, prime accused in the case, had received the notice. "We will take action against him if he does not report to the police lines after receiving the letter," Commissioner SM Mizanur Rahman told The Daily Star. Kamrul, an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, was gunned down in front of his north Ibrahimpur house on September 13.
