Youths 'cheated' in Ctg in the name of job fair: 2 held

Two persons were held here yesterday allegedly for pocketing over Tk 2 lakh from more than one thousand unemployed youths in the name of "registration" in a so-called job fair.

The two are Manzoor Aly, a former high official of Jamuna Oil Company Ltd, and his son Aly Imam alias Ashraf. They got the youths "registered" in the job fair, luring them for lucrative jobs at different renowned business firms.

Monzoor Aly had earlier announced through advertisements in some national dailies to organise the fair under the name of his firm Welcome International Pvt Ltd, which is located at Dampara beside BAWOA School.

According to the advertisement, the fair was supposed to take place at Woodland Park community centre opposite Sholoshahar Railway Station on October 3.

Offering jobs at renowned firms like Navana Group, Mostofa Group, TK Group, HRC, MM Ispahani Group, KDS Group and State Bank of India, the advertisement invited unemployed youths to get registered for Tk 200 each during September 18-30.

Over one thousand youths were registered for the fair and interviewed for "promised jobs" until the whole process raised doubts among some participants.

Queries by the suspicious candidates found that the Welcome International had neither permission nor authority to recruit staff for the firms that it claimed will participate in the fair.

As the fraudulence came to light, the registered participants as well as the willing ones confined Manzoor Aly at his office yesterday morning.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered fake seals of 13 firms from the Welcome International office and arrested Monzoor and his son.

The two were taken to Kotwali Police Station where filing of a case was under way at the time of filing of this report last evening.

Meanwhile, when contacted sources in the State Bank of India confirmed its scheduled participation at the fair, but denied to have given the Welcome International any authority to recruit anyone for the bank.
