Memorial Meet on August 21 Victim
Resignation of govt demanded

Awami League presidium member Amir Hossin Amu yesterday demanded resignation of the BNP-Jamaat coalition government by taking all responsibilities for its failure to pre-empt the August 17 countrywide bombings.

"Without government's assistance this kind of bomb attacks was not possible. The alliance government conducted the bomb attacks to negate the opposition's reform proposals on caretaker government and Election Commission and to divert public attention," Amu said.

Amu said this at a meeting in memory of Moftaq Ahmed Sentu, who died in August 21 grenade attacks on AL really at Bangabandhu Avenue. Shaheed Sentu Smriti Foundation organised the meeting with Sentu's elder brother Mostafizur Rahman Nilu.

"We will establish a people's government through a free and fair election reforming the Election Commission and the caretaker governmental system," Amu said.

He said the alliance government has destroyed all the sectors and failed to ensure minimum security of the people.

AL presidium member Tofail Ahmed said the Khaleda-Nizami coalition government is patronising the fundamentalist forces to cling to power for long.

He urged the people to get united against this corrupt government and force it to step down.

Party leaders Obaidul Kader, Professor Nazma Rahman and Ajoy Kor Khokon, Jubo League chairman Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Sechchhasebok League Presi-dent Bahauddin Nasim, Chattra League president Liakot Sikder and General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu also addressed the meeting.
