Kahn, Lehmann feud rages on

The long-simmering feud between Germany's two top goalkeepers flared up again Friday on the eve of a friendly against Slovakia.

Oliver Kahn has reacted to Jens Lehmann's latest comments this week in which he said he is convinced he is the better goalkeeper and that he is sure he will win that position at the World Cup.

"It's quite amazing how disrespectful he repeatedly is in dealing with this competition situation,'' Kahn was quoted as saying in Friday's edition of Bild newspaper.

Kahn was referring to coach Juergen Klinsmann's system of rotating the two 'keepers. Arsenal's Lehmann will be in goal Saturday against Slovakia and Wednesday against South Africa. Bayern Munich's Kahn will return for the October games against Turkey and China.

Klinsmann has been switching the 'keepers since he took over 13 months ago and will not decide on his first choice until shortly before the World Cup starts in June in Germany.

Klinsmann, who sends one 'keeper home while the other plays, seemed untroubled by the flare-up.

"What would I want with players who are happy to be reserves?'' asked Klinsmann.
