Agora fined for selling stale food


A mobile court yesterday fined Agora super shop at Rifles Square in Dhanmondi Tk 50,000 for selling rotten fish and flour, mustard oil without expiry date, and internationally banned unhygienic juices.

The mobile court led by Magistrate Md Rokan Ud Doulah also raided four canteens of Fazle Rabbi Hostel and Shaheed Dr Milon Hostel, dormitories of internee doctors of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, and arrested three managers of those canteens for keeping unhygienic and sub-standard foods.

The court sentenced them to one month's imprisonment and fined Tk 1,000 each and one more month's jail if they failed to pay the sum.

A mobile court led by Magistrate ABM Fattah raiding some hotels and restaurants at Gulshan area fined Tk 82,000 for keeping adulterated and sub-standard food items and filed six cases against the people involved.

Another court led by Magistrate Mizanur Rahman raided Bismillah Bakery, Liza Bakery and Shaheen Hotel and Restaurant at Gulshan and fined them Tk 48,000.

A mobile court led by Syed Mozibul Haq raided some restaurants and fastfood shops in Demra area and fined Tk 45,000 for keeping below standard foods and unhygienic environment.

The court also filed five cases against five people of those shops.
