Second phase of Charity Photo Exhibition begins

The second phase of a Charity Photo Exhibition began at Sonargaon Hotel in the city yesterday with a call to stand by the acid survivors.The Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF) organised the exhibition to raise funds for the victims of acid violence. A group of young acid survivors who presented a drama titled 'Aina' (mirror) at the inaugural session made an appeal to all to stand by them and help them lead a normal life. Tahmina, an acid survivor, spoke of the ordeals she went through following an acid attack on her, and called on all not to ostracise the acid survivors. Inaugurating the exhibition, Canadian High Commissioner David Sproule said acid violence is a heinous act, which causes devastation to a person not only physically but also emotionally. Photographs of 70 renowned photographers and photojournalists have been put on display for sale. The three-day exhibition will remain open from 10:00am to 9:00pm daily till September 4. The photographers have donated their photos for the exhibition and the proceeds will be used for treatment and rehabilitation of the acid survivors and to raise awareness about acid violence, said Monira Rahman, executive director of the ASF. Reazul Amin, president of JCI, Dhaka East, and Grant J Gaskin, general manager of Sonargaon Hotel, also spoke. The exhibition is co-sponsored by Bangla Link, Nascom, Tack Training, Intelab, Kodak, Express one, North South University and Linkers. The third and final phase of the exhibition will be held at the Spectra Convention Centre on September 8 and 9.
