Amirul Islam alias 'Shutki' Amir, local commander of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddha) Alamdanga unit under Chuadanga district, was arrested in Sonargaon of Narayanganj yesterday.

He had been hiding at Loknath Brahmachari Asram in Bardi Union of Sonargoan upazila in the guise of a construction worker.

Acting on a tip-off, the Detective Branch (DB) of police, Narayanganj, arrested him at the asram yesterday noon.

He was later handed over to Chuadanga police.

Police said Amir is an accused in 12 criminal cases, including five for murder, filed with Alamdanga Police Station.

Narayanganj district police superintendent (SP) said Amir had been absconding in Sonargoan since police intensified the anticrime drive in Chuadanga.
