The killer disease is Falcifarum malaria

The disease that claimed three lives in Uttar Pumdi village in Hosainpur upazila in Kishoreganj district has been identified as Falcifarum malaria.Hospital sources said the disease, which was unknown to the area, also affected 76 people in the last couple of days. Of them, 12 are being treated at Hosainpur Upazila Health Complex one in Bajitpur Johurul Islam Medical College Hospital. As panic was taking its grip in the areas following outbreak of the disease, two group of experts from Dhaka rushed to the affected village. The teams are led by Entomologist M Mafidul Haq and Senior Scientific Officer of Disease Control and Research Institute, Dhaka Dr. Muslem Uddin. They announced Pumdi village as affected area. After examining blood reports, Dr. Benazir, a member of one of the teams, said they have found Anopheles mosquitoes in the affected area and primarily reached the conclusion that the disease is Falcifarum malaria caused by the mosquito. Kishoreganj Civil Surgeon Dr Saizuddin Kabir said they have already taken emergency measures to check spread of the disease. They are spraying aerosol and distributing leaflets among people to create awareness. Kishoreganj Pourasabha Chairman Abu Taher Mia said the municipal authorities have also started spraying aerosol in the affected area.
