Khasru blames SC for staying HC verdict

Former Law Minister Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru yesterday severely criticised and condemned the Supreme Court judges for staying the August 29 High Court judgment declaring the 1975 military takeover and the subsequent constitutional amendment illegal.

Pointing to the Supreme Court judges he said "You have legitimised the martial law administrations by staying the August 29 High Court verdict. You have no jurisdiction to sit in the judges' benches of the Supreme Court, since you have violated the constitutional oaths by legitimising the martial law administrations in the country."

He also called for issuing a contempt of court charge against Law Minister Moudud Ahmed for his comment that the August 29 High Court judgment has no value.

He was speaking at a meeting organised by the Sammilito Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad (SASP) on the Supreme Court premises.

Matin Khasru said the judges are not interested in protecting the constitution and disposing of the Bangabandhu murder case but to stay the landmark verdict of the High Court in the darkness of midnight.

Supreme Court Bar Association Secretary Advocate Enayetur Rahim said the government would have to receive a miserable fate for protecting some abandoned persons by taking stay on the High Court verdict.

"We do not want politics and judgment of midnight darkness. We want transparent politics and judgment in the daylight," he said.

Presided over by SASP member secretary Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, the meeting was also addressed by Advocate MA Halim, Azherullah Bhuiyan and Advocate Shahidul Islam.
