'BNP-Jamaat alliance trying to victimise Islamic scholars'

The Olama Mashaekh Parishad yesterday said the BNP-Jamaat alliance government has been conspiring to victimise the Islamic leaders and scholars in the name of hunt for bomb attackers.

The arrest of Moulana Fariduddin Masud is part of such a conspiracy, the Parishad leaders said at a press conference in the city yesterday.

Terming Jamaat-e-Islami a non-Islamic party guided by the Jews, the Parishad leaders said it is trying to establish a link between Moulana Masud and the Awami League in a bid to portray him as the enemy of the country.

They also said the Government has staged a drama by exploding the bombs on August 17.

Demanding release of Moulana Masud and other innocent Islamic scholars and madrasa students, the leaders said he has no link with any Islamist outfit such as Ahle Hadith and Jama'atul Mujahideen.

Responding to a question, Parishad Convenor Mufti Nurullah said that although Jamaat speaks of Islam, it does not follow it and although the BNP government speaks of nationalism, it does not really work for it.

Parishad leader Mufti Joynul Abedin and Moulana Abdur Rahim also spoke at the press conference.
