Cop, criminals trade fire in city: Two shot

A police constable and an alleged criminal were bullet-hit in a shootout when police went to arrest the criminal at East Rampura in Khilgaon in the city yesterday.

Constable Ali Ahsan of Special Armed Forces (SAF) was shot in the abdomen, while Kalu, an accused in a double murder case, in the left leg.

Kalu and his gang opened fire at a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police when they went to arrest the gang. They exchanged several rounds of shot with the DB men.

Kalu was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) under police custody. Ahsan was also undergoing treatment there.

Khilgoan police said Kalu is an accused in a double murder case. Two cable operators were killed at Banasree in Rampura on April this year.

Meanwhile, Kalu claimed him Sohel, a garment employee in Hazipara. Denying the allegation of shooting, Kalu told this correspondent that he came out of a shop after making a phone call during the shootout between the police and the criminals and caught in the crossfire.
