'SB men want to meet judge'

Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud yesterday alleged Special Branch (SB) of police asked a High Court judge, one of those who made the recent verdict declaring the fifth amendment illegal, to meet them in the Supreme Court building.When a hearing was on in the courtroom, the judge's personal peon told him SB men were waiting for him at his chamber, Rokan, vice-chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, said. He was speaking at the closing session of a two-day convention at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium. Rokan said he was moving a case during this incident. The judge declined to meet the SB men and asked his peon to tell them to meet the Supreme Court register if needed, he added. He said after this, the judge seen disturbed and left the courtroom for two minutes to take a relief. It is a new form of terrorism and attack on independence of the judiciary, he said.
