SCBA demands suspension of special judge

Supreme Court Bar Council (SCBA) yesterday demanded suspension of Mohammad Rezaul Karim Khan Chunnu, special judge of Dhaka Division, for his involvement in politics.

In a statement, SCBA President Mahbubey Alam and Secretary Enayetur Rahim said Chunnu, also the secretary general of Judicial Association, is attending political rallies which is creating a negative impact on the judiciary.

"Despite being a sitting judge Chunnu is taking part in political programmes organised by the ruling BNP in Kishoreganj district and expressing his desire to contest the next general election," said the statement.

"It is very unfortunate that the government is silent about this matter although reports on Chunnu's involvement in active politics have been published in newspapers," it added.

The statement said the law ministry should take immediate departmental action against the special judge.
