Argentine coach in town

Argentine coach Diego Andre Cruciani and trainer Victor Ariel Colman arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday night to join the Bangla-desh Football Federation (BFF) as the coaching staff of the national team.

The duo watched yesterday's Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium but the 42-year-old Cruciani was reluctant to talk to the press until a deal is signed.

"I have had no homework on Bangladesh football so I have no deep idea about what's going on in here," said Cruciani, who was assistant of Argentina's legendary World Cup winning coach Cesar Luis Menotti at first division side Independiente in the 1998-99 season.

Also the assistant coach of Haiti national team, Cruciani had discussions about his future with the BFF officials in the afternoon at the BFF House.

"The atmosphere and facilities are nice here and I feel it is a popular game. I hope everything will be fine and I am prepared to work hard here," he said.

Cruciani, whose last job was as a member of the technical body of Boston Bulldogs FC in the 'A' League in the USA in 2000-01, and his partner are expected to sign a one-year agreement with the federation today.

The Argentine duo's first assignment will be taking the Bangladesh football team to the SAFF Football Championship in Pakistan in December and prepare the under-23 national team for the SA Games in April in Sri Lanka.

The appointment of Cruciani, who will be the tenth foreign coach for the national team, will end BFF's two and a half-year run without a national coach after Austrian George Kottan's departure in 2003.

Colman, on the other hand, will be the first ever foreign trainer to be appointed by the BFF.
