Provost, six house tutors resign

Provost and six house tutors of Munnujan Hall of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday resigned from their posts in protest against the censure by a probe committee blaming them responsible for July 31 incident. They said the committee in its report had made unjustified criticism and aspersion on their ability to control student demonstration in the hall. Those who resigned included Provost Prof Irain Ara Lucy, and House Tutors Prof Rabiul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Anisur Rahman, Zakia Sultana, Salma Sultana and Umme Kulsum Mini. Female leaders of Munnujan Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Sunday went berserk in the hall rampaging office rooms and keeping four teachers including a house tutor and two hall superintendents confined for almost 11 hours. Meanwhile, Progressive Teachers' Association (PTA) and other student bodies have urged the university authorities to ensure the security of hall students saying the dormitory has been running without any administration.
