Non-stop hartal threatened at Benapole

The Benapole land port users have threatened to enforce an indefinite hartal at Benapole from next week if their demands are not met by this week.

The port users continued their strike at the land port for the 12th day yesterday to realise their 12-point demand.

They also sought intervention of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to end the stalemate at the land port.

On the other hand, the Indian transport workers called off their strike on Sunday after the Benapole Customs Authorities returned three out of the four reconditioned trucks they seized earlier. The remaining one will be returned soon.

On Sunday, leaders and workers of five port user organisations held a rally at the main gate of the Customs House in support of their 12-point demand. They accused some port officials of conspiring to destroy the land port.
