The students of Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Dhaka University yesterday threatened to leave the dormitory if the university authorities take action against any of them for the agitation on July 17 that led to the resignation of the house tutors. They also brought out a silent procession on the campus covering their face with black ribbons protesting a move to take action against them. They said if the authorities take measure against any student, all of them will leave the hall. "If the authorities want to take action, they have to take action against all of us," one student said on condition of anonymity. The students called on Vice Chancellor Prof SMA Faiz yesterday. They urged him not to take any action against them. They told the VC that they staged the demonstration to press home their 'legal demands' and they did not misbehave with any of their teachers. "We met the VC to inform him about our stand against the reported move which we come to know from different newspapers' reports that the inquiry committee has recommended cancellation of seats of six students for their involvement in the demonstration," she said. The VC assured them of taking no punitive action against them. Prof Siddiqur Rahman, member secretary of the seven-member inquiry committee, said "We are trying to submit the final report today. Prof Faiz told the journalists that they are trying to reach an acceptable decision in this regard.
