Pro-govt lawyers' counter grand rally Aug 5

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (JAF), a pro-government lawyers' organisation, will organise a grand rally on the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) premises on August 5 to counter the Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad's (SASP) July 29 grand rally.

The JAF leaders announced the programme at a press conference in the city yesterday. They blamed the SASP, a forum of the pro-opposition lawyers, for damaging the Supreme Court by attacking the judiciary.

"The SASP leaders have attacked the judiciary by ignoring the High Court order that gave directions banning agitations on the court premises. They are violating the court directives without filing appeal against the order. We will organise the grand rally in protest against their activities," JAF vice president advocate AK Mujibul Huq said.

While reading out a written statement, JAF President Advocate TH Khan said pro-opposition lawyers are intentionally making false, undemocratic and contemptuous comments against Law Minister Moudud Ahmed in order to tarnish his image and dignity.

"The martial law court had unjustly punished Mahiuddin Ahmed Jhintu and the government had given him clemency after reviewing the record of the case in accordance with the provision of the constitution," he said.

He said the JAF leaders will exchange views with the senior lawyers on August 1 and 2 at the SCBA hall room prior to organising the grand rally.

JAF Secretary Advocate Saidur Rahman, Organising Secretary Advocate Golam Mohammad Chowdhury Alal and Vice President Advocate Golam Arshed were present at the press conference.
