Ershad cleared of GD charge

Police yesterday submitted a final report to a Dhaka court stating Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad innocent with regard to a general diary (GD) filed against him by his estranged wife's sister.

Sub-inspector (SI) Mohammad Abu Sayed, also the investigation officer (IO) of the GD, secretly submitted the report to the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka at 7:15pm.

Trisha Rahman, Bidisha's sister, on June 28 filed the GD with Uttara Police Station accusing Ershad of threatening her and her family with death.

The court ordered the IO to probe the allegation brought against Ershad on June 30.

The IO in his probe report mentioned he did not find any truth in the allegation.

Meantime, the court has extended the ad-interim bail of Bidisha in the cheating case until August 4 following expiry of her bail yesterday.

Ershad at a press conference yesterday announced of taking legal action against Bidisha for misappropriating money.

"She owes me Tk 2.13 crore, which she had taken in cash and cheques through EM Corporation," he said.

Bidisha claims ownership of Isabella, a boutique shop, and the President Park house, which are registered under Eric's name, he said. "She can't even claim the car, which I bought in installment for EM Corporation."

"She can take away anytime all her ornaments and clothes she claims to have left at my house.

"I told her we both should bring up Eric alternately, but she didn't agree," he told reporters. "Rather she has threatened me with sending legal notice."
