DMP launches clean-up drive
20 sergeants transferred for alleged crime link

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) as part of a clean-up drive yesterday transferred 20 sergeants out of the capital for their alleged link to extortion, mugging, drug-peddling and other criminal activities.DMP Commissioner SM Mizanur Rahman acknowledged the move and said they were transferred because of their 'bad performance'. Meanwhile, a five-member committee was formed yesterday to probe why the money, mugged from a businessman on June 28, was not recovered from the arrested policeman Julfikar Ali. The committee, headed by Additional Commissioner Faruk Ahmed, is composed of officials from the Criminal Investigation Department, Special Branch, and Detective Branch. Sergeant Julfikar was arrested on June 29 eight hours after he robbed a businessman of Tk 14.47 lakh at Bijoynagar in the capital but the money has not been recovered as yet.
