No mangoes without carbide

A few days back, the news that police fined some mango-mongers for adulterating mangoes with carbide attracted my attention. The same vicious trend is being exercised, to a great extent, by the mango-vendors here in the central part of Savar, brushing aside the law; even many educated inhabitants are aware of that, but they prefer to remain silent. If they are informed about the injurious effect of the chemical of carbide, most of them, to my utter amazement, care a little, rather they like to say, "You'll get no mangoes without carbide." Most of the vendors, without hesitation, have admitted that they, in most cases, mix carbide with mangoes to augment colour and taste. And what's the consequence? They know very little about that.

The victim is the writer himself: now he is suffering from loose motion and other inconveniences. Therefore, I urge the authorities to curb this crime which amounts to slow poisoning.
