Police have claimed to have detected the killers of Awami League (AL) leader and businessman Kamrul Alam, who was gunned down at his office in Jigatola in the capital on Saturday."We're about to trap the hitmen hired to kill Kamrul," said Deputy Commissioner (South) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mazharul Hoque. He however said they are yet to detect the masterminds behind the killing and their motive. "We'll decide on that after we arrest at least one hitman or have a talk with Kamrul's family," the deputy commissioner added. He said they could not record statement of the slain AL leader's wife, as she is yet to recover from the shock. A policeman investigating the killing said they are trying to know whether Kamrul has a feud with anyone over business and politics. Police are also gathering information whether criminals had recently demanded toll from the slain businessman. Kamrul's intention to contest the next general elections from a Feni constituency might have links to his killing, police suspect. Sharuful Alam Majumder, Kamrul's brother, filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station late on Saturday.
