Halishahar police arrested Monir Hossain alias Haji Monir,40, one of the 43 charge-sheeted accused, from his Chowchala residence at about 7:15pm.

Haji Monir, known to all as a smuggler, was on the run for the last 15 months.

The ever-biggest consignment of ten trucks of arms and ammunitions were seized on April 1 in 2004 at the CUFL Jetty.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted charge sheet against 43 people.

Of them, some 25 people were arrested and all except eight were in bail.
