Habiganj DC obstructing probe
Family alleges

Family members of the slain former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria yesterday said the deputy commissioner (DC) of Habiganj is obstructing the investigation into the killing of Kibria and demanded his removal from the district."As long as the DC will be in Habiganj, we will not get fair investigation and justice in my father's killing," said Reza Kibria, son of late SAMS Kibria, while addressing a press conference at their Dhanmondi residence. The DC is working in favour of the criminals instead of paving the way for a neutral investigation, Reza alleged. Demanding removal of the DC, he said, "We have proof that this DC is not helping the probe team and he should be interrogated." "The DC of Habiganj is playing a nasty game by not allowing accused Qaiyum to give his statement," Asma Kibria, wife of SAMS Kibria, said at the press conference. Asma Kibria also blamed the government for diverting the investigation and hiding the mastermind behind the killing of her husband. She alleged that the government is not helping them in holding their "blue for peace" programme and intimidating people not to participate in the programme. They could not hold any programme in Habiganj due to the non-cooperation of the district administration, she added. On seeking help from the international community into the killing of Kibria, she said, "I sought international help as I did not get any help from the government." Asma Kibria later announced a new programme of her campaign, an open essay competition on "Terrorism-Free Bangladesh and Justice of Political Killings". Talking to the UNB Habiganj, DC Emdadul Huq, however, vehemently denied the allegations saying, "This is absolutely wrong…I have no role in this."
