Grenade 'smuggler' killed in 'crossfire',
Another Arges grenade seized at Aminbazar

A person arrested on charge of grenade smuggling was killed in 'crossfire' between Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and his accomplices in Savar in the early hours yesterday.

The Rab-4 has seized an Arges brand grenade, a one-shooter gun, a pipegun, six bullets and 21 bottles of phensidyl from the spot in Amin Bazar.

Savar police arrested Nazrul Islam alias Bomb Nazrul on June 24.

A Rab press release said a few teams of the elite force took Nazrul to Amin Bazar to arrest his associates and seize arms and ammunition.

The teams came under fire and immediately encountered the attack at 4:16am, the release said. Nazrul, an accused in six cases including three for murders, tried to flee during the shootout and was killed in 'crossfire', it claimed.

Earlier, the Rab seized four anti-personnel hand grenades on January 9, February 16, June 16 and July 1 from different areas in Amin Bazar.

Rab sources said Nazrul had supplied the grenades and led a syndicate of drug peddlers and gunrunners.
