Speakers at a conference yesterday called on the teachers to make the students aware about the history of liberation war and the concept of human rights, peace and tolerance. The teachers can play a vital role in teaching the new generation the true history of the liberation war, they said. The Liberation War Museum organised the Third Teachers' Conference at the Cirdap auditorium in the city with around 150 teachers from seven districts. The conference is part of an outreach awareness programme for the students, initiated by the Museum in collaboration with Manusher Jonno, a non-government organisation. A total of 102 schools in Dhaka, Panchagarh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Gazipur, Tangail and Kurigram have been brought under the programme to raise awareness about the history of liberation war, human rights, peace and tolerance. The students of the schools have submitted over 1100 articles on the liberation war to the Museum in the last six months. "It is very difficult for the new generation to know about the real history as the history of the liberation war in textbooks changes with the change of the government," said Air Vice-Marshal (Retd.) AK Khandakar while addressing as chief guest. Making the students of remote areas aware about the real history of the liberation war and inspiring them to write about it are the main goals of the programme, said Prof Salauddin Ahmed. "We have taken measures to preserve the articles written by the students and these are available on the website of the Museum," said Mafidul Huq, a trustee of the museum. At the conference, the teacher will be given a guideline on running and extending the programme across the country, he said.
