Army man, his brother nabbed for snatching

An army sergeant and his brother were arrested on Friday on charge of snatching Tk 5.5 lakh from a moneychanger in the Dhaka Cantonment area, police said yesterday.Military Police later took Sergeant Badrul Alam in their custody while his brother Selim was remanded for a day after the moneychanger, Golam Rahman, filed a case against them. According to the FIR (first information report) filed with Cantonment Police Station, Badrul and his brother called Rahman to cantonment to sell 8,500 US dollars on Thursday. When Rahman met them in the cantonment area in the evening, the army man took him to Mirpur for "security reasons." Later, they came back to signal 11 in the Dhaka Cantonment where Badrul and Selim took Tk 5.5 lakh from Rahman and gave him 8,500 dollars. When the moneychanger was about leave the place, Badrul and Selim stopped him and snatched the dollars, Cantonment police said quoting the FIR. The duty officer at Cantonment Police Station told The Daily Star last night that they arrested Badrul and Selim after Rahman filed a case under Speedy Trial Act. Later, Military Police took Badrul to cantonment.
