Security has been beefed up in and around the Dhaka Judge Court in fear of criminal attacks especially on high-profile criminal Arman and the August 21 grenade attack suspects, police sources said.Authorities have already stepped up police patrol and watch by plainclothes cops in the area following arrest of a few grenade attack suspects, the sources said. Besides, 10 metal detectors and three close circuit televisions (CCTV) are likely to be installed in the court area, a top police official said asking not to be named. Different intelligence agencies have reported that Arman and the grenade attack suspects might be targeted in the court area, he said. Usually, 103 policemen are deployed to keep watch on the court area. But the authorities have recently beefed up the watch by engaging 149 policemen there. The cops in 17 picket teams are now keeping round-the-clock vigil around the court in an eight-hour shift. Five teams of plainclothes police are also guarding against any untoward situation. Four patrol teams are keeping close watch on all the four entry points to the court -- Court House Street, Johnson Road, English Road and Shankharibazar crossing. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner SM Mizanur Rahman has confirmed the enhanced security measures, but he said no decision has been taken to install metal detectors and CCTV. Meantime, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have provided body armours for Arman and George Mia, who has confessed to the grenade attack before a magistrate. A joint force arrested George from his Senbagh house in Noakhali on June 10. He admitted that 14 criminals, mostly belonging to the Seven-Star Group, hurled grenades at the Awami League rally. He was one of the attackers paid Tk 10,000 each for the mission, George told the magistrate. However, Interpol members and an FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) expert called in to help local investigators have reportedly found flaws in George's confession.
