Alliance success scares opposition
PM tells rally

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday said the opposition is raising the issue of caretaker government system reforms and election boycott sensing its sure defeat in the next general elections.She said the parliamentary elections will be held as per schedule according to the constitution. "In the 2007 election the people of this country will cast their votes for BNP and its alliance," the prime minister said while addressing a public meeting at the Melandoho High School ground in Jamalpur yesterday afternoon. Khaleda said the opposition is frightened noticing the development activities by the ruling alliance and that is why they have resorted to hartal and strikes. "One party is engaged in terrorism inside the country, tarnishing the image of the country abroad. Their falsehood and propaganda are creating trouble for the expatriate Bangladeshis," she said pointing to the Awami League. "Today they are practising politics of destruction and are engaged in activities against the country's interest," she said, urging the people to remain alert and "take right decision" by casting votes for the BNP-Jamaat alliance in the next election. Khaleda Zia blamed the opposition for creating obstruction to each and every step towards development undertaken by the BNP government. She said if the rule of this government continues, the country will become self-reliant in every aspect. The PM said the law and order situation of the country has improved and an independent anti-corruption commission has been established as per her election pledges. She said her government is also ensuring the accountability of the administration. Post and Telecommunications Minister M Aminul Huq and prime minster's Political Secretary Harris Chowdhury also spoke at the meeting presided over by Melandoho BNP President Mustafizur Rahman Babul.
