Inter, Vieri part ways

Inter Milan have released Italy striker Christian Vieri a year before his contract ran out.

The 31-year-old scored 12 goals in 27 games for Inter this season but has been forced out by Brazil striker Adriano and Nigeria's Obafemi Martins.

Vieri, who grew up in Melbourne, Australia, played for Torino, Atalanta Bergamo, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Lazio and will be looking for another top-flight club.

Inter bought him from Lazio in 1999 for a then world record 45 million dollars which provoked the wrath of the Vatican at so much money being spent on a sportsman.

"FC Internazionale thanks Christian Vieri for his contribution to the history of the club over the past six years," the club said on their website.
