Locals yesterday found the bodies of the couple--Anwar Hossain, 40, and Kohinoor Begum, 30--residents of Mehendinagar under the upazila, and informed the police.

The body of Anwar was found hanging from a tamarind tree yesterday morning, while Kahinoor's body was found in a nearby pond in the afternoon.

Anwar's father Shahidul Islam alleged that some unknown men abducted the couple on Thursday night, strangled them and left their bodies in those places.

Other sources said Anwar strangled his wife and then killed himself.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Shyampur Police Station admitted that the incident had occurred, but could not give details.
