'People's support a must to stop killing culture'

Dr Reza Kibria, son of slain former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria, yesterday stressed the need for people's spontaneous participation in the peaceful movement to put an end to the killing culture. "We have just started an international movement to bring my father's killers to justice, but it is the general people whose support is most vital in this regard," he said. Dr Reza was addressing a protest programme arranged under the 'Blue for Peace' initiated by Asma Kibria, wife of the slain former minister, at Dhanmondi yesterday. "It will not be possible to protect the country from the evil forces if general people remain inactive," he said. Referring to the recent 'attempt on the lives' of Awami League leaders Tofail Ahmed and Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Dr Reza said the evil forces are now trying to kill the colleagues of his father. "To build a sustainable movement to stop the political killings, we will soon arrange our peaceful programme 'Blue for Peace' at the divisional headquarters and district towns in phases," he said. Asma Kibria said that she would soon launch a fresh programme to create awareness among the people in order to put an end to political killings. Wearing blue dress, other family members and common people spontaneously joined the programme.
