Natyashobha's 30th anniversary

Natyashobha, a cultural organisation, celebrated its 30th anniversary at the National Theatre Stage on June 1. The evening was rounded up with discussion programme and an award giving ceremony.Barrister Moudud Ahmed, minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, was the chief guest while Taz Mohammad, secretary-in-charge of the Ministry for Liberation War Affairs, was the chairperson. In his welcome speech, Natyashobha president Shahidul Haque Khan pointed out several activities initiated by the organisation. Later, acclaimed TV play director Atiqul Haque Chowdhury read an article styled "Drama speaks about life". He said, "Life and society appear in an oversimplified form in our drama, partly because of censorship, and partly because of our lack of knowledge." Barrister Moudud criticised the poor management of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, citing the inactive air-conditioning system inside the hall. To quote him, "We admit that the government provides limited support for our cultural activities. However, the people concerned should be capable of utilising the facilities adequately. "The Asian and African countries have successfully projected their culture and earned a positive image all over the world. The Bangladesh government should likewise boost the rich cultural heritage of our country." Later, an award giving ceremony and a cultural event followed.
