RU students celebrate Rabindra-Nazrul's birth anniversary

The music and dramatic department of Rajshahi University (RU) recently celebrated the birth anniversaries of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam at the Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium.

The inauguration session of the celebration marked presentation of songs of Rabindranath and Nazrul by the students of the department.

The department also organised a discussion with the department's Chairman Prof Abdul Matin Talukder in the chair.

RU Vice Chancellor Prof Faisul Islam Faruki was present as chief guest while RU Pro VC KAM Shahadat Hossain Mondol was present as special guest at the celebration programme.

Arts faculty Dean Prof Muhammad Shafi, Assistant Proctor Shafiur Rahman and teachers of the department also spoke on the occasion.

The RU VC noted that Nazrul's songs and poems were great sources of inspiration for the country's freedom fighters during the Liberation War in 1971. He called upon the students' community to inspire the people to fight against injustice and repression.

Speakers threw light on the lives and works of the two greatest poets of Bangla literature.

Later, the students of the department presented Nazrul Sangeet and Rabindra Sangeet and recited poems of the two poets.

They also performed Rabindranath Tagore's drama Dakghar (post office) under the direction of Prof Rabiul Hossain.
